The role of English Council Representatives

Make sure that your regional voice is heard and that your regional party knows what is going on!

Time Commitment

The English Council convenes at least two times a year on a Saturday. from 10:30am - 2.30pm, with a half hour lunch break. (time should be allowed for the debates to overrun).

You will also need to set aside time to prepare for each meeting, with deadlines for submitting motions and amendments, and your regional party may also ask that you attend a pre-meeting of all your regional representatives to discuss what is coming up at the meeting and the issues your regional party may wish to raise. You may also be asked to make a report (either written or verbal) to your regional party, its officers, or your regional conference.

The current schedule of meetings and other events can be seen on our 2025 Calendar.

Skills and Experience

A strong knowledge of the internal procedures and structures of the Party in England, your regional party, and local parties, together with a keen eye for detail, rounded communication skills and analytical skills are all desirable.

Support

Whilst most meetings are online, as with all English Committees, reasonable travel expenses above the first £15 can be claimed for in person meetings.

Elections

Please contact your regional officers to find out when your region will next elect its representatives to the English Council, and to ask where you can obtain nomination papers.
